History

In the 1940s, a group of families with children with cerebral palsy created a support group in a room at St. Mary’s hospital. This support group grew into a clinic that provided medical and physical restoration services. In 1954, the clinic became a fully chartered agency, the Cerebral Palsy Center. In 1963, as it became apparent that the need of children and adults with disabilities are different, the organization became focused on adult services and another organization began to support children with cerebral palsy.

Current Structure

The CP Center is a 501 (c ) 3 organization, with a Leadership Team composed of a volunteer Board of Directors and an Executive Director. We operate programs for adults with cerebral palsy that focus on achieving unique and specific goals for each individual. We employ a team of trained and skilled employees to provide support during day horus as well as 24-hour coverage for people living in a supportive living environment.

Quality Standards

Our agency holds licenses from the State of Tennessee for each service and location of the CP Center. Additionally, we are annually reviewed by the Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging, TennCare, and Managed Care Organizations who fund our services. Our work is guided by quality indicators in place by those agencies, and we review adherence to those standards on an ongoing basis in order to continually improve our processes.
